Dr Pauline Howell is a senior medical officer who has been working in the field of HIV and Tuberculosis for more than ten years. She holds a medical degree from the university of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, a post-graduate diploma in HIV management and a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene (London).  

 

Dr Howell has been a research investigator at the Clinical HIV Research Unit for nine years. She is based at the Sizwe Tropical Disease Hospital in Johannesburg, and is involved in drug-resistant TB research, including multiple seminal trials in adults, paediatrics and pregnancy. Dr Howell has also been involved in clinical access programmes for bedaquiline, delamanid, and most recently for BPaL. She is responsible for managing the research unit at Sizwe, and teaches drug-resistant tuberculosis to medical students and postgraduates. She is a member of several protocol committees and the TB scientific committee in the IMPAACT network. She is happily married with three daughters.
